Volkswagen Group China Plans to Export with South East Asian Markets as first Step

Volkswagen Group China and its joint ventures, SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and FAW-Volkswagen, have developed a clear plan to expand into exports, targeting emerging markets. Volkswagen has signed separate Memoranda of Understanding with its joint ventures to introduce high-quality models, which have proved popular in China, and which will expand the choice of Volkswagen Group products in those markets. The move reflects the international standard of the joint ventures’ products and represents a new milestone in Volkswagen Group’s relationship with its two long-standing partners.

Mr. Weiming Soh, Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China, Group Strategy and Sales & Marketing, Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group Import Company Limited, said: “The plan to expand into exports is another pioneering effort for Volkswagen Group China. It represents the next step in the ongoing expansion and development of our Joint Ventures and underscores the fact that their products can compete internationally.”

The export program is implemented in close coordination with the capacity utilization in other regions. Its initial phase targets South East Asian markets, with the pilot shipment to be made to the Philippines in January 2018. The export program is scheduled to get underway fully in March. The target is to deliver several thousand cars to customers annually in this region in the years to come.

The export of Volkswagen Group vehicles from China will be coordinated by Volkswagen Group Import Company Limited and the vehicles will be sold through Volkswagen Group’s existing sales channels in the respective countries.
