GMT94 Yamaha takes on double challenge

WEBWIRE

FIM EWC 2016-2017 world champion GMT94 Yamaha has set itself not one but two goals for 2018. The priority is another Endurance world championship title, but the team is also launching Mike Di Meglio into the contest for the FIM Supersport world championship title.

After sweeping both the FIM EWC 2016-2017 world championship title and the Bol d’Or, the first race of the 2017-2018 season, GMT94 Yamaha has decided to take on a double challenge by also fielding Mike Di Meglio, the 2008 world champion in the GP 125cc class, in the FIM Supersport world championship.

However, GMT94 Yamaha’s priority remains the world endurance championship. Mike Di Meglio will compete in every FIM EWC round in 2018, even though some races clash with the Supersport championship dates. ‘No question, my dream is first and foremost to win the EWC world title with David Checa and Niccolò Canepa,’ says Mike Di Meglio. ‘I’d really like to be the first rider to win both the Grand Prix and the EWC!’

David Checa, Niccolò Canepa and Mike Di Meglio will line up on the starting grid of the 24 Heures Motos on 21 April 2018.
