Lucent Also Announces New Integrated Blade and Pricing for Small Class 5 Configurations

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) and LightRiver Technologies -- a Lucent sales business partner -- today announced that Industry Telephone has selected technology from Lucent’s Accelerate(TM) Next-Generation Communications Solutions to provide local and long distance voice services over Internet Protocol (IP) and traditional networks.

Industry Telephone, based in Industry, Texas, and its subsidiary Industry I-NET, offer customers a variety of telecommunications services including telephone, ISDN, broadband Internet access, web hosting, wireless and now VoIP.

The Texas independent carrier, which serves more than 2,000 subscribers in the southeast region of the state, is deploying the Lucent Compact Switch, formerly the Telica Compact Softswitch, to replace traditional Class 5 switches. As a Lucent sales business partner, LightRiver is furnishing Industry Telephone with the Lucent Compact Switch and also will provide and coordinate a full set of turnkey professional services, including engineering, installation, testing, training and technical support.

“We selected the Lucent Compact Switch because it provides the density and features we need to grow our business cost-effectively. This platform, supported by Lucent’s and LightRiver’s extensive expertise, enables us to continue to offer traditional voice services and introduce new VoIP services, while making use of our existing network,” said Delbert Wilson, general manager of Industry Telephone. “ITC is excited about working with Lucent and LightRiver to deploy this switch to offer new innovative services to our customers.”

“LightRiver has been working with Industry Telephone for more than a year to evaluate and determine the best possible solution that will enable it to deploy services quickly and economically while reducing CAPEX and OPEX expenditures,” said Glenn Johansen, president and CEO of LightRiver Technologies. “By bringing together Industry and the Lucent Compact Switch, LightRiver and Lucent are providing a platform that enables Industry to offer its customers a full range of reliable and innovative services.”

“The Lucent Compact Switch offers independent telephone companies, like Industry Telephone, a solution that fits their market today and gives them the flexibility to evolve, if they choose, to an IP Multimedia Subsystem architecture for next generation blended services that can provide a competitive advantage,” said Gerry Cafaro, vice president of sales for Lucent Technologies. “By partnering with companies such as LightRiver, we can extend our reach in the market and deliver the most advanced telecommunications solutions to a wide variety of service providers.”

Lucent also announced a new high-performance DS1 blade for the Lucent Compact Switch (and the Lucent Network Gateway) that can simultaneously support multiple combinations of signaling protocols -- SS7, GR 303 and PRI -- on a single card. The development is an example of how quickly Lucent and former Telica teams have come together to produce new solutions for customers. In addition, Lucent has introduced a new compact switch “starter-bundle” configuration and pricing for the small class 5 switching market. The new blade and switch pricing provide flexibility for even the smallest starting configurations.

Lucent Technologies Compact Switch will be highlighted in Lucent’s booth (#104) at the VoIPossibilities Conference and Expo in Dallas April 13-15.

The switch can support from as few as 1,000 subscribers to more than 100,000 subscribers on a single integrated platform. Service providers can deploy the switch for end-office (Class 5) and tandem (Class 4) applications to replace an existing switch or as an addition to the network. In addition to providing VoIP, Internet off-load and gateway mobile switching center features, the compact switch also offers CALEA and E911 capabilities.
