LA Testing recognizes its Huntington Beach laboratory for CDC ELITE Certification.

Huntington Beach, CA – WEBWIRE

LA Testing is pleased to announce that its Huntington Beach laboratory is now CDC ELITE certified for Legionella analysis. LA Testing’s parent company, EMSL Analytical, Inc., now has 20 CDC ELITE certified laboratories within its network spanning across the United States and Canada. In addition, this marks EMSL and LA Testing’s third certified Legionella laboratory in the state of California.

Legionella can cause a very serious form of pneumonia known as Legionnaires’ disease, which often has long-term health effects such as cognitive decline and debilitating fatigue long after the patient is released from the hospital. Legionella can also cause a less serious flu-like illness known as Pontiac Fever.

“EMSL also performs Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing for Legionella at its Cinnaminson, New Jersey location, which is a suburban Philadelphia laboratory,” said Christopher Goulah, Ph.D., Legionella Technical Manager at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “We are the only commercial testing laboratory in the country that offers PCR testing for L. pneumophila, L. pneumophila serotype 1 and Legionella spp. in one PCR test. We also perform Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) for outbreak source investigations involving all species and serotypes of Legionella.”

Along with Legionella testing, LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory offers asbestos and microbiology testing services. The laboratory is certified by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) for fungal testing of air, bulk and surface samples through the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP). The laboratory is an AIHA-LAP, LLC Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (EMPAT) participant for fungi and Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Testing (IHPAT) participant for asbestos, metals, silica, organics, 3M diffusive sampler, formaldehyde and beryllium.

In addition, LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory is accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for bulk and airborne asbestos analysis. The laboratory is accredited by the California State Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program for lead, TCLP, pH and bulk asbestos as well as the State of Hawaii Department of Health for bulk asbestos.
