LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 5, 2006 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., and Arizona State University, one of the premier metropolitan public research universities in the nation, today announced a long-term partnership to build a world-class “Sustainable Digital University” at Arizona State University.

The partnership will enable Arizona State to transform into a Sustainable Digital University using Canon digital technology, while allowing them to create a new university standard for digital document management and handling, and ensure their continued national leadership role in sustainable research, education and solutions.

“Canon and Arizona State University have a common vision for the future of digital technology in our everyday lives and within educational institutions,” said Ryoichi Bamba, executive vice president and general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We are looking forward to making the Digital University a reality for Arizona State University.”

“Arizona State University is poised to enter a new world of digital technology,” said Adrian Sannier, vice president and chief technology officer, Arizona State University. “This partnership is a unique opportunity to create a sustainable digital environment that effectively facilitates the creation and use of knowledge and capitalize on the power of information technology to meet the educational and business needs of today and tomorrow.”

Canon will initially assist Arizona State in deploying a digital print management program across its campuses, and improve the institution’s existing copy centers with Canon’s award-winning imageRUNNER line of copiers and multifunction products. Canon will also open a digital showroom on the Tempe campus; sponsor relevant student activities; and work with Arizona State University to identify cooperative research projects, as appropriate, for future consideration; as well as use Arizona State as a test laboratory for new Canon digital technologies.

Canon is a primary sponsor of Arizona State University’s conference on The Role of Higher Education in Creating a Sustainable World. Arizona State University, in conjunction with The Assocation for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), is hosting this year’s event. The goal of the conference is to expose the Arizona State University community and AASHE attendees to vendors, programs and resources that will assist them in their sustainability initiatives.

Enrolling more than 63,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students on four campuses in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona State University maintains a tradition of academic excellence in core disciplines, and has become an important collections, studio and performance arts center for creative endeavor, and an unsurpassed state-of-the-art location of scientific and technological laboratories and research facilities.
