Marjorie Hersom Shares Interesting Story of Ancestor in New Book

Marjorie Hersom’s “Captive Bride” tells of the author’s ancestor, Maria del los Santos y Castro’s life. Fifteen-year-old Maria was standing above the harbor watching the waters while waiting for Joaquina, who asked to meet her at the harbor and see her off. When Joaquina did not show up, Maria sensed something was off and suddenly felt nervous. She then felt something was off when one of the men she met that morning was coming toward her. At that moment, her life changed. She became a matriarch of a very large family, having birthed ten children.

Hersom’s father told them about Maria’s story at the Sunday dinner table. The story is based on the real events and intrigues them, especially Marjorie, and inspired her to write this book. Hersom was able to deliver the wonderful history of their family to the readers’ fingertips. The author brings the story of her ancestors back to life as readers can feel the beauty, sadness, and joy her ancestors felt way back.

“Captive Bride” is one of the titles expected to be displayed at the 2018 BookExpo New Title Showcase, which will soon take place on May 30, 2018.

About the author
Marjorie Hersom was born on the island of Guam on August 31, 1932. At the age of nine.  Her father was transferred to San Francisco by his employer PAA and the family traveled to San Franciso via the China Clipper leaving just ahead of the islands’ bombing by the Japanese.
