Along with modernity, political and religious views have also evolved in the United States. Andrew Fitzpatrick analyzes how much of the twentieth century’s viewpoint has changed in his book The Imprisonment of Self. It focuses on how a lot of people are seeking their own gods and dismiss the Supreme Being.

A chronicle of how atheism became popular in America, the book aims to educate readers about the religious differences and secular influences that led to the belief in the inexistence of God. To support his claims, he included excerpts and cited ideas from notable historic figures like Margaret Sanger, George Washington, and Martin Luther.

Andrew Fitzpatrick considers himself a lifelong Catholic. He hopes to pass his love for religion and history to his children. His inquisitive and curious nature led him to write the books The Imprisonment of Self and The Catholic Church in a Pagan World: History Repeats Itself.
