Edward’s book is targeted towards readers who enjoy science fiction and satire. He hopes that it can help immigration workers in dealing with the different cultures and values of every immigrant.

When people leave the familiarity of their homeland for new and unfamiliar places, the culture shock can be so bad that they can feel like literal aliens. Edward Purizhansky knows this feeling well. His book, Visitor from Harare, touches on the subject of adapting to unfamiliar environments.

The science fiction novel is based on Edward’s own experiences while immigrating to the United States. His interactions with fellow Russian immigrants also served as inspiration for the book. Visitor from Harare is about an alien who was sent to Earth to study humans. The extraterrestrial, who goes by the alias “Johan Becker,” meets a family of Russian immigrants in Bridgeport, New York, after his visit to Germany. He gets to know the family and observes how they interact with their environment. The family’s culture shock and struggles deeply interest the alien, making his study an interesting one.

Visitor from Harare was featured by LitFire Publishing in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2017. The event was held at the Messe Frankfurt in Germany from October 11 to 15.
