Colorado Teacher Cynthia Revels Pens Science Fiction Novel to Get Teens Reading

The author’s venture into fiction writing stems from personal experience in the classroom.

Detroit, Michigan,USA – WEBWIRE

Two sisters meet for the first time under an evil circumstance to save the galaxy from total chaos.

As a teacher, Cynthia Revels knows what kind of books would appeal best to students, especially those who are at risk of failing high school. One day, at her credit recovery class, she found out her students had no interest in the books their literature teacher had assigned them to read because they find them boring. They want to read books they could easily relate to, which is why Ms. Revels wrote “Immersion” (Archway Publishing, 2016).

“Immersion” is a science fiction novel written from a Haitian and Afrocentric perspective. The main character, Ayizan, lives what appears to be the life of a normal adolescent. But, she hides a tremendous secret. She is both human and extraterrestrial. And, her sister, Mercedes, whom Ayizan has never met, has been watching over her younger sibling from her home planet of Xylanthia for the past year, using her tarot cards.

When Ayizan’s behavior endangers the other extraterrestrials on earth, Mercedes intervenes by trying to stop Ayizan from completing her ‘Immersion,’ a sacred rite of passage controlled by the loa, or ancient spirits of the Vudou culture. This may not be the way the sisters would want to meet one another. But, they must learn to work together to maintain the balance between intergalactic order and chaos.

“Immersion” by Cynthia Revels is available at Archway and Amazon
