Allen Scovil Explores Man’s Future With Robots In His Sci-Fi Novel

Allen Scovil’s “Deep Black Road” explores the adventures of protagonists Ricky Sheppard and Suzanne Harrington undertaken in this dystopian science-fiction novel.

A vast serpentine evil led by The Prophet has entwined itself throughout the world’s power structures. Who can stand against it? The ambitious general, who is terminally ill? The geeky boy, crushed by an out-of-control robot? The snobby girl, fatally injured by a runaway car? But they don’t die. Instead, their sparks of life are saved and put into cutting-edge robots.

When the boy won’t help the general, the girl steps up instead as he stages the military coup he’s been planning; and the boy gets caught up with the renegade Followers of the Anointed One. Then the Prophet declares himself Emperor of the World; and our three robotic people, thrown together in an improbable alliance, are now on the run from the New Order.

When the boy had been lingering between life and death after his accident, he’d been granted a ‘great and terrible’ destiny; but will he have the courage to fulfill it as he heads down … the Deep Black Road?

Scovil’s vivid description of the future, set in the year 2079, is exceptional, and brings his settings to life. The incorporation of laughter, love, and faith added more beauty to the book’s whole premise, and the characters are well described and portrayed. This fast-paced, exciting, and suspense-filled science fiction story certainly needs to be checked out by every sci-fi and fantasy readers.

About the Author

Allen Scovil was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and then went with his family to Ontario before he was five. He’s spent the rest of his time living in various places in Ontario ever since, getting educated, raising four children, and struggling to keep working (He’s recently been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome).

Now that he’s finally retired, he has the time to indulge his hobby of writing, which he began in 2003. He’s always been fascinated by science fiction and fantasy stories, and has searched for a way to make them Christ- and God-centered, instead of technology- or magic-centered. He has so far self-published six such books (print and ebook). The first, of course, is “Deep Black Road.” The latest is “Thirst,” about a boy who loses a fight with a wizard and is thrown into a crazy land full of cryptic puzzles. The other four are in the series called “The Parables of the Game Master,” which is a fantasy about a boy who is transported to a mysterious Land of the Heart run by the enigmatic Game Master, where there are mysteries to be solved, and lies to be untangled.

He currently resides in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada, and is the proud grandfather of two boys and a girl, who he visits regularly.
