Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit Races Ahead With Mitel IP Telephony

Sydney, Australia, September 28th 2006 - Mitel®, the trusted provider of IP communications solutions and applications, today announced that Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit has deployed a Mitel IP solution using the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP).

Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit is located in Bathurst, Australia. The world famous circuit is considered the spiritual home of motor racing in Australia and the site of the Australian National Motor Racing Museum.

The Pit Complex at Mount Panorama is a purpose build motor racing facility designed to handle world class racing events. The Mount Panorama Racing Circuit hosts the iconic Bathurst 1000 motor sport event held every October, as well as other smaller racing events throughout the year. The Pit Complex and National Motor Racing Museum are owned and operated by Bathurst Regional Council.

Peter Fawkes, Manager of Information Services for Bathurst Regional Council commented, “October race week at Mount Panorama usually attracts 40 racing teams, hundreds of media and more than 100,000 spectators over four days. Every race team has different needs but they all try to push the limits of technology. Teams demand high speed Internet and sophisticated voice systems for their designated pit area. The ability to make rapid changes to communications services is essential.”

To provide maximum flexibility, Bathurst Regional Council implemented a Mitel 3300 ICP solution for the Mount Panorama Pit Complex. The communications infrastructure in the Pit Complex is designed to be capable of being deployed on demand, so that communications services can be tailored for specific race team requirements and dismantled after the completion of events.

Peter Fawkes continued, “Mitel’s IP solution gives us enormous flexibility. We can now totally dismantle and reconfigure the communications infrastructure for the Mount Panorama Pit complex in days, rather than the weeks it used to take with our old systems. The Mitel solution allows us to easily tailor communications services for each race team, without needing a site visit. Every aspect of the system is managed from our IT department located in the Bathurst Civic centre, via simple web based management tools.”
