WesternGeco to Provide Q-Marine Vessels for a Further Two Years

LONDON, September 21, 2006 - Schlumberger announced today that the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has extended its contract with WesternGeco for Q-Marine* systems currently in place. As a result, additional multiple high-resolution exploration and development seismic programs will be undertaken throughout both the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 acquisition seasons.

“The initial Q-Marine contract, and now this extension, represent the largest cumulative seismic acquisition effort undertaken in India to date and underscores the significant commitment of ONGC to explore, develop and produce hydrocarbons in India through the utilization of the foremost seismic technology available today,” said D.K. Pande, director (Exploration) for ONGC.

Under the existing contract, ONGC utilized two Q-Marine vessels throughout the 2005-2006 acquisition season in offshore India. New surveys, covering targeted areas along the eastern and western coasts of India, commit two WesternGeco Q-Marine vessels to ONGC for a further two seasons.

“We are pleased to have been given the opportunity to further strengthen our relationship with ONGC and to assist them in finding solutions to their specific imaging challenges. Q-Marine will provide the improved resolution required to map thin sand reservoirs as well as complex stratigraphic traps in the area,” said Richard Cieslewicz, WesternGeco regional manager for India.

“In addition, we will continue to process the surveys in our newly expanded Mumbai data processing center, where we provide a full suite of advanced data processing services, including depth imaging, as well as reservoir seismic services such as reservoir characterization and 4D (time-lapse) processing and analysis.”

Q* is the WesternGeco proprietary suite of advanced seismic technologies for enhanced reservoir location, description and management. For additional information on Q-Marine, the world’s only fully calibrated, point-receiver marine seismic acquisition and processing system, as well as Q-Land* systems and Q-Seabed* systems, see http://www.westerngeco.com/q-technology.
