QUALCOMM Collaborates with Vermeer Manufacturing Company to Deliver Telematics-Enabled Heavy Equipment
Vermeer Machinery to be Pre-Wired for the GlobalTRACS Equipment Management System
SAN DIEGO — September 21, 2006 — QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced that it is working with Vermeer® Manufacturing Company, a leading manufacturer of industrial and agricultural equipment, to address the burgeoning market demand for equipment supporting advanced telematics capabilities. Under the terms of the agreement, Vermeer will endorse QUALCOMM as an approved provider of telematics products for the Vermeer lines of equipment and pre-wire its full line of products for QUALCOMM’s GlobalTRACS® equipment management system.
The agreement will enhance the customer process of purchasing telematics-enabled machinery from Vermeer’s full line of products, including utility and track trenchers, directional drilling systems, tub grinders, tree equipment and hay harvesting machines. Additionally, Vermeer’s customers can integrate QUALCOMM’s OmniTRACS® and OmniExpress® wireless fleet management solutions with their service and delivery vehicles to provide best-of-class customer service and response times while further improving the efficiencies of delivery and service truck dispatch and operations. With the GlobalTRACS and OmniTRACS systems linked, customers will be able to increase the productivity and efficiency of their operations by reducing manual paperwork and adding controls. The companies also will explore additional areas of product development to expand the potential productivity and efficiency of mutual customers through the use of wireless communications and computing. QUALCOMM’s relationships with an expanding roster of leading heavy-machinery OEMs widens the base from which customers can choose both high-quality equipment and the benefits of factory- or dealer-pre-wires or installation of the GlobalTRACS system.
“QUALCOMM is committed to working with industry-leading OEMs, such as Vermeer, to benefit our customers,” said Larry Cleary, vice president and general manager of construction equipment for QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions. “Through this collaboration, Vermeer will be able to provide their dealers and customers with a Vermeer-endorsed equipment management system that offers significant benefits, including productivity improvements, cost savings and increased revenue opportunity.”
QUALCOMM’s GlobalTRACS equipment management system enables better equipment utilization, improved productivity and the potential for increased revenue because the system automatically collects, organizes and manages information about where and how industrial and agricultural equipment is being used and also provides critical machine health information. This data can be accessed via an easy-to-use, Web-based service or integrated into existing back-end business software systems. Engine hours information and data collected from critical systems monitoring helps equipment owners with scheduling timely preventive and emergency maintenance.
The GlobalTRACS system is designed to meet the demanding requirements of equipment manufacturers, OEMs and buyers, enabling factory or after-market installation on all equipment makes and models. With the GlobalTRACS system, companies easily can spot unauthorized usage, as well as identify and re-deploy underutilized and idle equipment. Security management also is a key feature of the system since the GlobalTRACS system allows users to create virtual boundaries with both entry and exit alerts.
“This agreement provides our customers with the ease of purchasing and installing QUALCOMM’s GlobalTRACS solution through the extensive Vermeer dealer network,” said Hans Kelpe, senior systems engineer and telematics lead for Vermeer. “The GlobalTRACS system can be easily installed on any product in the Vermeer line of industrial and agricultural equipment.”
Vermeer Manufacturing Company of Pella, Iowa, manufactures a full line of brush chippers, stump grinders and tree spades, as well as horizontal directional drilling systems, tub and horizontal grinders, utility and track trenchers and agricultural products.
