A Woman’s Dedication to Family at Frankfurt Book Fair 2016

On this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, LitFire Publishing featured the book A New Beginning by Alyss Morgan. The book follows the life of Anne Spencer and her siblings as they embark on a journey to start a new life in America.

Anne was born from an aristocratic family in England and is engaged to the local baron’s son. However, her parents unexpectedly die in a carriage accident, leaving the siblings penniless and her fiancé breaking off their engagement. But Anne was determined to redeem her name and give her siblings a comfortable life. She convinces them to move to the land of the free, where she finally fulfills her dream and finds a man who truly loves her.

A New Beginning is a light read, but it reiterates common issues from the postcolonial era that are still evident in modern setting. At the same time, the story remains dedicated to familial themes, and on what lengths a person will go through for the sake of survival.

Frankfurt Book Fair was held on October 19–23, 2016, at Messe Frankfurt (Frankfurt Trade Fair) in Frankfurt, Germany. Thousands of authors, publishers, booklovers, and fairgoers have gathered in the open, annual event.
