What Happened to Frankie Silver’s Daughter?
The book chronicles the life of Nancy, the daughter of a woman hanged for murder.
The case of Frankie Silver is notable as she is believed to be the first white woman hanged in North Carolina. While there are many books about Frankie’s life, none of them speak about the thirteen-month old daughter she left behind.
Danita Stoudemire, together with her contributor, Riley Henry, creates a compelling historical fiction, A Life for Nancy. This book details the events in Nancy’s life, starting from the day her mother, Frankie Silver, was executed for murder.
The case of Frankie Silver is notable as she is believed to be the first white woman hanged in North Carolina. While there are many books about Frankie’s life, none of them speak about the thirteen-month old daughter she left behind. Riley Henry is the husband of Nancy’s great-great-granddaughter. His input and research helped Stoudemire weave history with fiction, and detail how Nancy was able to make a life for herself despite the circumstances of her parents and the Civil War, which left her to raise six children on her own.
Nancy’s story is worthy and readable. An Amazon reviewer says, “[The book] is a great piece of historical fiction, and it belongs in the library of anyone who enjoys the genre.”
A Life for Nancy was displayed in LitFire’s booth during one of the biggest book fairs in the world—the Frankfurt Book Fair. The fair is attended annually by thousands of book traders and publishing professionals. This year’s fair was held at Frankfurt Trade Fair in Germany from October 19 to 23.
