LOS ANGELES, CA -- 04/01/2005 -- Noted art conservator Scott M. Haskins will speak on “Art Conservation Secrets for Collectors and Artists” on Sunday, April 17, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., at the Autry National Center’s Museum of the American West in Los Angeles.

Haskins, who has served for nearly two decades as president and chief conservator of the Fine Art Conservation Laboratories in Santa Barbara, Calif., will provide practical advice for preserving of works of art, frames and documents. He will also share examples of larger projects on which he has worked, which include mural conservation for the U.S. Government, the State of California, the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, and Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Calif.

The lecture is being presented by the California Art Club, one of the oldest and largest professional art organizations in the country.

According to the Club’s president, American artist Peter Adams, “In order to preserve artwork for the enjoyment of generations to come -- whether it’s a painting with a value in the millions of dollars or a family heirloom of priceless sentimental value -- it is critical to understand what can be done to counteract chemical and physical deterioration.”

“This lecture is particularly timely, as many suffered water damage to artwork and documents during the heavy rains we have had in Southern California,” Adams added.

The fee for the lecture, which will take place in the Museum’s Wells Fargo Theater, is $10.00. A reduced fee of $5.00 applies to members of the California Art Club and the Museum. The Museum of the American West is located at 4700 Western Heritage Way in Los Angeles.

For more information on this lecture, or to make a reservation, call the California Art Club at 626-583-9009 or visit www.californiaartclub.org.
