Citrix WANScaler Adds Dynamic Multi-Level Compression, an Industry-First in Optimizing the Delivery of Applications over Wide Area Networks

NEW YORK CITY, Interop New York, Booth #229 — 9/19/2006 — Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) today announced the immediate availability of its Citrix® WANScaler™ 8000 Series of wide area network (WAN) optimization solutions. The new WANScaler release underscores Citrix’s leadership as the most comprehensive provider of solutions that deliver any application, to any user, in any location with the best performance, security and cost savings. With industry analysts expecting the WAN optimization market to double to more than $1.2 billion by 2009(1), and an estimated 55 percent of all employees worldwide accessing their applications from branch offices, WAN optimization solutions are rapidly becoming a critical infrastructure requirement for enterprises around the world.

With the WANScaler 8000, Citrix introduces new breakthrough dynamic multi-level compression technology with extended disk-based history that can improve application response times for branch office employees by an average of 5x to 30x, and up to 300x at peak compression efficiency.(2) Incorporating a new algorithm that improves compression ratios by more than 10 times(3), Citrix’s multi-level compression enables WANScaler 8000 to automatically select the optimal compression scheme for specific applications, data flows and network bandwidths, resulting in maximum performance and efficiency. By dynamically adjusting between disk, level-two cache and memory-based compression, WANScaler 8000 applies highly efficient, high performance compression supporting hundreds of branch offices, thousands of connections and WAN throughput levels greater than 500 Mbps. With this level of performance, an inexpensive T-1 WAN link (1.544 Mbps), commonly used for branch office connectivity, can now support the equivalent of a full Gigabit of application traffic throughput while improving the performance of applications to end users.

WANScaler’s new dynamic multi-level compression capabilities augment the product’s existing performance-boosting WAN acceleration techniques, including TCP flow control, service class policies, and application-specific optimizations for protocols such as Common Internet File System (CIFS) and FTP. The new 8000 Series also takes advantage of WANScaler’s market-leading network and application transparency, making WAN optimization far easier to deploy and configure. Citrix’s AutoOptimizerTM engine then intelligently applies the right acceleration techniques to improve the performance of wide area network application traffic, including:

* Client-server applications delivered by Citrix Presentation Server™
* Web applications delivered by Citrix® NetScaler®
* File sharing and bulk data transfer applications
* Emerging new IP-based applications like voice and video

“Delivering applications to branch offices is far too difficult for enterprises today,” said Wes Wasson, corporate vice president, product marketing and strategy, Citrix Systems. “Citrix WANScaler sets a new standard in branch office application delivery, making WAN optimization smarter and simpler for enterprises of all sizes. The new WANScaler 8000 series enhances that core value proposition by giving customers industry-leading acceleration technology that is both more effective and significantly easier to achieve.”

The WANScaler 8000 Series includes the WANScaler 8500 and the WANScaler 8800 models. The WANScaler 8500 is a 1U appliance with a fault-tolerant RAID disks, and is ideal for deployment into medium and large branch offices. The WANScaler 8800 is a 2U appliance designed for datacenters delivering applications throughout the enterprise. It offers high-performance hardware redundancy features, such as dual power supplies, dual fans and RAID disks. WANScaler 8000 products also support the company’s WANScaler Client, which provides application acceleration to all remote users, including employees in “micro branches,” home offices and on-the-road.

Pricing and Availability
The WANScaler 8500 and 8800 products are available immediately. List price for the WANScaler 8500 starts at $8,500 and the WANScaler 8800 begins at $40,000.
