Fleet safety is a number one priority for all sorts of fleets—public transit, emergency, work and industrial, military vehicles and more.

MONTREAL, Canada – October 18, 2016 - FleetMind Solutions, in collaboration with Safe Fleet, today published an industry white paper entitled: “Fleet Safety Best Practices: Learning from Other Industries”. This white paper looks at fleet safety trends from other industries to glean insights into the latest and best solutions toward optimizing fleet safety.

“Fleet safety is a number one priority for all sorts of fleets—public transit, emergency, work and industrial, military vehicles and more,” said John Knox, President and CEO of Safe Fleet. “While fleet functions may differ, they share many commonalities in terms of safety requirements. Understanding how other industry verticals employ solutions to mitigate risks and improve safety can be beneficial to all.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), traffic fatalities in the U.S. jumped 7.7 percent in 2015 compared to the previous year. Further data indicates that 94 percent of crashes are tied to human error or faulty decision-making. Significantly, many reported incidents are “struck by” accidents, which involve pedestrians being struck by a moving garbage or dump truck. According to statistics, nearly 30 percent of such accidents are due to vehicle reversing without adequate visibility, blind spot checking or warning sounds.

“Every fleet manager thinks about safety non-stop,” said Martin Demers, Vice-President of FleetMind Solutions. “This white paper identifies key pain points and how these are being addressed by various fleet types. For waste fleets, understanding how other vertical markets have tackled their safety issues can help inform improved safety initiatives and approaches.”
