A Bale of Turtles is an enchanting way for younger learners to be educated about the different names groups of animals are called.

A group of foxes is called a skulk. Owls form a parliament. Jellyfish make up a smack! A Bale of Turtles, written by Lee Clancey, brings a delightful way to learn about collective nouns for animals. This book was featured in the 2016 Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The international event took place from April 4 to 7 at the Bologna Fair Centre, Bologna, Italy.

Illustrator Mary Rothermel applies her skills in painting naturalistic scenes of different animals. Playful and amusing, her paintings depict the known personalities of each animal in its habitat. Clancey and Rothermel portray the animal groups on land, in water, and in the air, using concise rhymes and whimsical illustrations.
