The Quest for the Lost Ojibwe Fortune
Hole in the Day: A Novel by Steven A. Carr weaves a gripping account of deception, murder, and the search for a lost fortune across 147 years and thousand miles.
“Any reader who enjoys mysteries, action-adventures, or just a great read of fiction in general, should absolutely grab Hole in the Day,”
In 1868, a fortune in US gold double eagle coins, belonging to Chief Hole in the Day, and the Northern Mississippi Ojibwe, vanishes. The hunt stretches from Minnesota’s Land of Sky-blue Waters, to the exotic Cayman Islands, and finally Chicago’s Windy City. According to legend, the location of the tribal treasure may be found in a mysterious copper vase, which has also disappeared.
The tale of the lost gold survives generations of Native Americans, curiosity seekers, and treasure hunters. The latest investigators are two strong-willed Vietnam veterans searching for their own personal reasons—one revenge, the other redemption. But are they the last? If either of them can locate the copper vase, the big question becomes: Does the gold even exist and, if so, who can get to it first?
“Any reader who enjoys mysteries, action-adventures, or just a great read of fiction in general, should absolutely grab Hole in the Day,” says Tracy A. Fischer for Readers’ Favorite.
