Survivor of Terrorism Recollects Her Experience through Her Book
Author shares her story to encourage everyone to fight terrorism.
“The reason I wrote the book was that I wanted people to understand how it was that I came to know God. To KNOW God, not just to verbalize and pray, pray, pray. Not just the motions, but the knowing. The knowing made all the difference in everything; that’s what’s made the difference with me. I don’t just recite prayers by rote because I know that there’s a person listening at the other end to what I say,”
Last August 24–28, 2016, the Beijing Internation Book Fair had recently concluded its 23rd edition. Among the many books that were featured in the fair was Ellen Karas’ Miss Gloria: A Survivor of Terrorism. The event was held at the China International Exhibition Center Shunyi, République populaire de Chine.
Ellen recollects the most horrific incident she has experienced in her lifetime—the Al-Qaeda bombing of the US embassy in the Nairobi, Kenya. Although she survived, the attack left her blind. In her book, she shares her journey of self-recovery and how she managed to cope with the traumatizing incident. She talks about the multiple surgeries and therapies she went through, as well as how she was able to find strength to forgive.
