California Wildfires Cause Destruction and Smoke Damage for Many Residents
LA Testing provides testing services to identify smoke residues in properties impacted by nearby wildfires.
According to recent news reports, over approximately 50,000 acres have currently been set ablaze by two wildfires that have spread across Southern and Central parts of California in recent days. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated since the beginning of the fires. Recently, some of these residents have been able to return to their homes.
Along with damages caused by the wildfires, a smoke advisory warning has been issued for the Santa Clarita Valley and the San Gabriel Mountains due to the poor air quality. In the central part of the state, a fire in Monterey County has smoke that can be seen as far as 300 miles away.
“Property owners who have homes or businesses in the areas affected by the wildfires are advised to look for smoke damage signs,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing. “Smoke can infiltrate a structure and leave behind unpleasant odors and residues that can cause corrosion, etching and discoloration within the property. Many insurance policies provide coverage for smoke damage, but it is often left to the property owner or tenant to provide proof of damages. Testing the indoor environment for smoke residues, mold, lead and asbestos is important to ensure an insurance claim covers all of the damages under the policy.”
