In Distorted Mind, Michael shares his feelings of isolation and emptiness when he went through severe depression, delusions, and mania. “The paralysis of depression encompassed my very core. Its silent brutality lay hidden from view…It is so difficult to describe, both now, years into recovery, and also while in the depths of its curse,” he says.

It was when he was brought for a long confinement in a psychiatric hospital that he realized that his thoughts were merely hallucinations. Michael describes in this book how therapy and medication have allowed him to conquer his mental illness and face the future full of promise and hope.

Michael Fortnam received a BS in mathematics from Boston University. A member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), he presently resides on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
