Mold Forces Bay Area Family to Vacate Million Dollar Rental Home

In May, KTVU broadcasted a report about a family of six who discovered high levels of mold in their rental property in Danville, California. According to the report, the family had been living in the home for 15 months as their children began to develop a myriad of health issues ranging from wheezing and coughing to nosebleeds.

The family had an inspector check the attic where mold was found growing on wood beams due to an apparent roof leak. Subsequent air tests found elevated levels of Penicillium and Aspergillus in the air. In fact, mold levels that were 20 times higher indoors were discovered as compared to outdoor samples.

The family, which had to leave all of their belongings when city inspectors yellow-tagged the property, are temporarily staying with other family members. They have been trying to get reimbursed for relocation expenses, furniture replacement and the return of their deposit from the property management company.
