“Those years were truly aching. There was a time when I wanted to abandon the responsibility all together, but I managed to stay especially for him,”

A sad reality: mental illness is seen as more of a personality disorder rather than an actual, damaging disease. In Rosalie Contino’s new book, entitled As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn, readers are taken into an intimate story about the author and her then-retired sixty-one-year-old brother, who has a terrible, mind-eating disease.

The worse her brother’s symptoms got, the more irritable he became, and the more difficult it was to bear. But Rosalie made a promise to her parents, and despite the major challenges that took a hard toll on their relationship, she provided her brother the care, consideration, and devotion not many would have thought he deserved. Through these hard times, she managed to collect treasures of life experiences.

“Those years were truly aching. There was a time when I wanted to abandon the responsibility all together, but I managed to stay especially for him,” states the author.

Readers can easily empathize and take life lessons from this lovely literary piece, which is written in a warm, reflective tone.
