The book documents why Aquino left the Church of Satan and founded the Temple of Set, which is premised on the affirmation of individual consciousness. Deviating from the Judæo-Christian imagery, it includes an extensive theoretical discussion of Setian cosmology, philosophy, and black magic.

About the Author

The only member of the Church of Satan to obtain the Second Level of the Fourth Degree before 1975, Dr. Michael Aquino was also a member of the Church’s Council of Nine and Order of the Trapezoid. While serving the Council from 1970 to 1975, he was also the editor of Cloven Hoof, the Church’s newsletter. Aquino is a former adjunct professor in political science at Golden Gate University and a retired Lt. Colonel of the US Army Psychological Operations. He currently lives with his wife, Lilith in San Francisco.
