Writer Discusses Corporal Punishment throughout the World

How well do we understand corporal punishment, and how do other countries around the world perceive it? Author Fenold Alexis ventures deep into the topic in his book, Spanking Is a Global Phenomenon.

Knowing that the issue of corporal punishment among multicultural communities is rarely spoken of, Alexis discusses the context of spanking from a historical and cultural point of view. Considering aspects such as law on discipline, gender, and differences in generation, the idea of corporal punishment, according to Alexis, varies in different degrees.

In the book, the notion of spanking is also connected to slavery and religion. Different justifications of spanking deeply stem from established parenting practices that have persisted for generations. With an objective outlook on corporal punishment, Alexis examines the topic carefully, to determine if spanking is the wrong thing to do.

“The great generation and generation Y do not view spanking the same way,” says Alexis to his readers, as he presents the result of his research in the book.
