TestAmerica Presents at the 2016 TDEC Environmental Show of the South in Gatlinburg, TN

The Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation (TDEC) held its 45th annual Show of the South Conference on April 20-22, 2016 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  The Environmental Show of the South is the largest and most comprehensive environmental conference and tradeshow in the region, providing environmental training and updates on government and industry developments and trends.  Speakers from leading environmental agencies, industry partners, law firms, and service providers shared information on topics such as solid waste, hazardous waste, environmental law, remediation, vapor intrusion and water resources.

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, provided two presentations at the conference.  Dr. William Anderson delivered a presentation entitled The Fundamentals of Organic Compound Quantification.  The presentation addressed basic principles of quantification techniques, including use of calibration curves, surrogates and internal standards.  Dr. Anderson is a Senior Analytical Consultant for TestAmerica with more than 30 years of experience in the environmental testing industry.  He has extensive project experience in the design of analytical programs for source emissions permitting activities.  Dr. Anderson earned his BA in Chemistry and his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Tennessee. 

Tom Yoder delivered a presentation entitled Vapor Intrusion Assessments – Introduction to Collecting Quality Vapor Samples. Mr. Yoder’s presentation featured an overview of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) final vapor intrusion guidance contained in “OSWER Technical Guide for Assessing and Mitigating the Vapor Intrusion Pathway from Subsurface Vapor Sources to Indoor Air” as well as an overview of sampling methodologies and challenges for soil gas, sub-slab & indoor air samples.  Mr. Yoder has more than 25 years’ experience in the environmental laboratory industry, with extensive experience managing laboratories that provide vapor intrusion, ambient air, industrial hygiene and source emissions testing programs.  He earned his BS in Business Administration from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania in 1982.
