Many people make plans to get their lives in order, but what can one do when something completely unexpected happens? When Rosalie Contino received a harsh phone call from her brother’s boss saying that Bob, her sixty-one-year-old brother, had to retire because he had “outlived his usefulness,” she was devastated. As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn is a touching memoir of a sister who puts her dreams on hold to look after her brother, who was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia and a number of physical ailments.

In her book, Contino also fondly recalls her memories of the time she was unexpectedly left to care for Bob and reveals the struggles she encountered.

Contino imparts the realizations she made from her time with Bob. She shares the importance of never taking life for granted and allowing time to heal the wounds. Despite the heartbreaking events, several detours, and unpredictable circumstances, life, as the title suggests, goes on.

As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn will be featured in the 2016 London Book Fair on April 12 to 14 at Olympia, West London, England.
