CommonWealth One Offers Free Seminar on Financing College April 23

Scholarships, student loans and more among featured topics in session sponsored by CommonWealth One, the City of Alexandria and Northern Virginia Community College.

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is offering a unique opportunity to learn about how to help your student prepare and pay for college expenses. Join CommonWealth One for a free College Financing Seminar on Saturday, April 23, 2016 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Alexandria City Hall Sister City Conference Room 1101 at 301 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.

The City of Alexandria and Northern Virginia Community College are co-sponsoring this free educational event. This free seminar is open to current high school and college students and their parents or guardians.

College students who graduated in 2015 were the most indebted class of students, with an average student loan burden of more than $35,000, according to an analysis of government data by Edvisors. More than 70 percent of college students graduate with loan debt.

Our featured speakers will talk about the importance of seeking scholarship opportunities and outline options for paying for college, including financial aid, savings plans and other ways of financing college and related expenses. Jimmy Mauger, Financial Aid Manager at Northern Virginia Community College will speak, as well as Michael Finnie, CommonWealth One Financial Network Financial Consultant.

As the official on-campus credit union of James Madison University, CommonWealth One has a strong history of teaming up with students and their parents on higher education. In addition, CommonWealth One works with high school students in Alexandria to teach teens about personal finance, offers youth savings accounts and provides online and offline educational resources for members to further their financial education.
