Licensed Mold Assessors Provide New York Residents with Peace of Mind

VOETS, LLC is licensed to provide mold inspections and assessments to help residents of New York identify and resolve indoor mold issues.

New York, NY – WEBWIRE

These regulations came out of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, when many area residents unknowingly hired unqualified mold assessors to investigate mold issues in their homes and businesses, causing detrimental results.

Recently, New York State’s Department of Labor began enforcing Article 32 of the agency’s new Mold Program. It establishes licensing requirements and minimum work standards for professionals engaged in mold inspections, assessments, and remediation.

The purpose of the new regulation is to ensure the safety of the general public by allowing only licensed professionals to perform these types of services. A key component to this regulation is the Mold Assessor License. It is now required in New York for those defined as providing inspections or assessments of real property that are designed to discover indoor mold growth, toxic mold growth, conditions that facilitate indoor mold growth, and/or indicia of conditions that are likely to facilitate indoor mold growth.

Exposure to elevated levels of mold in an indoor environment can cause allergies and act as an irritant. People with asthma or COPD can have their condition aggravated or triggered due to breathing mold. Exposure can also cause hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) and some molds can cause opportunistic infections in people with a weakened or suppressed immune system. Some types of mold associated with water damaged buildings also produce toxins known as mycotoxins.

“Per New York State law, any business operating in New York that engages in mold assessment on a project, advertises that it is a mold assessment business, or holds itself out as a mold assessment business is required to obtain a Mold Assessor License,” said Michael Berrevoets, President, VOETS, LLC. “These regulations came out of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, when many area residents unknowingly hired unqualified mold assessors to investigate mold issues in their homes and businesses, causing detrimental results.”

VOETS, LLC is proud to offer New York residents comprehensive mold inspections and assessments as a Licensed Mold Assessor. Their mold and indoor air quality (IAQ) professionals have successfully conducted and resolved countless investigations in all types of residential, commercial, and institutional properties during their careers.
