How to Find Joy while Facing Cancer: Author’s story of courage and hope emphasizes importance of Colon Cancer Awareness Month

March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer knows the gut-wrenching fear this diagnosis can bring. That’s particularly true for people diagnosed with colon cancer, the fourth most common cancer in the U.S. and the second leading cause of death from cancer.

But while one in 20 people will develop colorectal cancer in their lifetime, with screening and early detection, over 90 percent of patients survive.

Christopher Foster is a colon cancer survivor and author whose story about how a routine screening saved his life--and how he found joy in the face of cancer--was published recently in “Stories of Hope” on the American Cancer Society website.

After a surprise diagnosis of colon cancer in 2013, Foster decided to write a book about his experiences of fighting cancer and what he learned in the process.
