Top 10 Most Cited Workplace Safety Violations for Fiscal Year 2015

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) reminds workers and industry of the need to address health and safety hazards in the workplace.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

The fact that OSHA’s Top 10 List is so similar, year after year, indicates that core health and safety programs need to continue to be a priority emphasis for employers.

Recently, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) named its top ten most cited violations of 2015 at the National Safety Council Congress and Expo.  OSHA publishes this annual list to alert employers and employees about commonly cited standards so that steps can be taken to find and fix these recognized hazards.

This year’s list is very comparable to the lists released the previous several years by OSHA.  The 2015 Top 10 Cited Violations List includes:

  1. Fall Protection
  2. Hazard Communication
  3. Scaffolding
  4. Respiratory Protection
  5. Lockout/Tagout
  6. Industrial Powered Trucks
  7. Ladders
  8. Electrical Wiring Methods
  9. Machine Guarding
  10. Electrical General Requirements

“The fact that OSHA’s Top 10 List is so similar, year after year, indicates that core health and safety programs need to continue to be a priority emphasis for employers,” said Susan Ripple, CIH® and Chair of ABIH®. “Companies and institutions are strongly encouraged to look to the expertise of Certified Industrial Hygienists to help identify workplace hazards to protect workers and to address these and other safety issues.  CIHs are trained to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control a wide range of chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic stressors. Health risk analysis, hazard communications, work environments and industrial processes are all key components of the CIH® program.  This comprehensive knowledge base can help protect the health and safety of workers, while avoiding costly OSHA violations.”
