The Elizabeth Hospice Participates in Giving Tuesday on December 1, 2015
Global Movement to Celebrate Generosity and Encourage Philanthropy
The Elizabeth Hospice is encouraging community members to consider participating in Giving Tuesday (#GivingTuesday) on December 1, 2015, a global movement to celebrate generosity and encourage philanthropy.
#GivingTuesday always takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It aims to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they celebrate and help create a better world.
The Elizabeth Hospice’s nonprofit mission supports awareness and access to quality end-of-life care for adults and children impacted by a serious or life-limiting illness, as well as education and support surrounding healthcare decision making and advance care planning for family caregivers and individuals.
Considered to be the model for quality, compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness, hospice care and palliative services involves a team-oriented approach to expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes. Support is provided to the patient’s loved ones as well. Care is usually provided in a patient’s home or wherever a patient calls home, such as in assisted living, residential care, or skilled nursing facilities.
On any given day, The Elizabeth Hospice cares for 500 patients and their loved ones throughout San Diego and the Inland Empire, in addition to providing counseling and grief support services to more than 8,000 individuals annually through its Center for Compassionate Care. Furthermore, along with paid staff, volunteers are always needed to help carry out the mission of the organization. The Elizabeth Hospice is the oldest and largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider in the region, and has touched the lives of more than 90,000 individuals since 1978 - regardless of one’s ability to pay - thanks to charitable support from the community.
