Residents along the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast Brace for Hurricane Joaquin

Three years ago, Hurricane Sandy left a path of destruction along the coast of both New Jersey and New York.  Many of the homes and businesses damaged by the historic hurricane have been rebuilt, but some still remain damaged.

Now residents from the Mid-Atlantic up through New England are bracing themselves for the possible landfall of Hurricane Joaquin, which was recently upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane.  In preparation, many people along the coast have begun activities to protect their homes and businesses.  The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides the following checklist for homeowners to avoid hurricane damage, it includes:

•    Know the Risk
•    Buy Flood Insurance
•    Install Hurricane Straps
•    Install and Maintain Storm Shutters
•    Install a Generator for Emergencies
•    Reinforce Garage Doors
•    Anchor or Remove Potential Windborne Objects
•    Remove Trees that Could Damage a Property
