TestAmerica to Present Webinar on Metals Analysis for Flue Gas Desulfurization Waste Waters and Coal Combustion Residuals

Denver, CO – WEBWIRE

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, will present the next installment of its Ask the Expert webinar series on Tuesday, October 6.  The webinar, entitled Metals Analysis for Flue Gas Desulfurization Wastewaters and Coal Combustion Residuals, will be presented free of charge to all interested participants by TestAmerica expert Dr. Richard Burrows.

Current air quality regulations in the United States require SO2 scrubbing for most coal fired plants, which results in the formation of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) wastewaters. EPA has also issued new regulations concerning the management of coal combustion residuals (CCR). These FGD and CCR waste products contain a variety of metals and anions that can cause interferences resulting in false positives and/or false negatives for traditional ICP and ICP/MS analysis.  TestAmerica has developed techniques for mitigating these interferences.

The webinar will address the complexities of handling Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) wastes, as well as the management of Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR).  Individual metal species (for example selenite, selenate and cyanoselenate) will also be discussed.

Dr. Richard Burrows is Corporate Technical Director for TestAmerica with responsibility for implementing new technology, improving existing methods, and leading technical groups within TestAmerica.  He has been actively involved with environmental methods and techniques through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL), and Environmental Laboratory Advisory Board (ELAB) organizations.

Dr. Burrows is currently Chair of the NELAC Institute’s (TNI) Environmental Measurement Methods Expert Committee, and is twice recipient of the ACIL Preston Millar Award.
