Brevard Woman Auto Repair Shop Owner Part of National Leadership Conference

Women are as capable as men when it comes to auto repair but they often lack the exposure to it that boys get when they are young.

When it comes to auto repair shops, it is rare to see a woman working there. It is even rarer that the woman is an owner.

Brevard County has at least one woman who owns an auto repair shop: Inmon Automotive Services, which is owned and operated by Terry Inmon and her husband, Ivan.

As a leader in her industry, Terry has sought to play a larger role nationwide to get more women involved in her industry. A member of the Women’s Board of the National Car Care Council she attended its Summer Leadership conference in Denver, Colo.

“It’s not unusual to find me in one of the bays alongside one of our ASE-certified technicians. These day’s I’m also spending some time trying to get more opportunities for women to become involved in the auto care industry,” the mother of two said. “Women are as capable as men when it comes to auto repair but they often lack the exposure to it that boys get when they are young.”

Inmon is working to change that, which is why it is important for her to participate in such activities as the conference.

“I was one of 10 women owners attending the conference,” Inmon said. “We were able to share ideas with approximately 100 women from across all areas of our industry attending the conference.”

The more women understand their autos, the better consumers they become, Inmon said.

“I would be happy to talk with any woman who wants to learn more about the auto repair industry, - or even just caring for her own cars,” the Merritt Island native said. “Just come on by our shop and we can go from there.”

Located at 55 N. Tropical Trail in Merritt Island, Inmon has been dedicated to fixing cars and trucks of the people of Brevard since 1959. Inmon is the only Repair Pal certified auto repair facility in Merritt Island.
