TestAmerica Laboratories, Inc. Announces In-House Capability for Passive Air Sampling at Refineries

Phoenix, AZ USA – WEBWIRE

TestAmerica Laboratories, Inc., a leader in air testing services, announced today the introduction of an in-house capability to analyze for benzene and other organic compounds in air using passive sampling tubes.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a rule that will require the monitoring of air concentrations at the fence line of refineries.  The proposed rule is based on the risk and technology review of two emissions standards already in place at refineries.

TestAmerica uses Perkin Elmer Automated Thermal Desorption coupled with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) to achieve the detection limits required in the proposed rule.  The EPA proposed the use of Methods 325A (field sampling) and 325B (lab analysis) for fence line monitoring at refineries.  The field method (325A) includes field placement of sorbent tubes that passively accumulate volatile organic compounds from air at or near fugitive emission sources (refineries).  The lab method (325B) uses sorbent tubes coupled with thermal desorption and GC/MS analysis.

Tom Yoder, Marketing Director, stated "TestAmerica has been supporting ambient air, source emissions and personnel monitoring programs for more than 20 years.  This new capability, performed in our Phoenix Laboratory, combined with our experience with other passive sampling media, allows us to assist refineries with the collection of data under the proposed benzene fence line monitoring rule.”

TestAmerica offers a comprehensive suite of air testing capabilities including Vapor Intrusion, Perimeter Monitoring, Landfill Gases, Personnel Monitoring, Brownfields support, Source Emissions testing and 24/7 access to trending data through TotalAccess®, an online data management system.
