Cable & Wireless Expands Its Video Transport Network with Scientific Atlanta

WEBWIRE

SAN JOSE, Calif./ATLANTA - Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company, today announced that Cable & Wireless U.K. has expanded its deployment of the Scientific Atlanta iLYNXTM platform to create a nationwide contribution and distribution platform on behalf of a major U.K. broadcaster. The Cable & Wireless video network will be used to link studios across the U.K. and will provide for the transport of standard-definition, high-definition and analog TV services.

The iLYNX system enables the transport of multiple industry-standard video formats and will provide benefits such as:

* Transmission and reception of uncompressed SDI video feeds

* Flexibility to manage video distribution to multiple platforms

* Deployment of a widely used industry standard interface that will help simplify operation and open up new opportunities in production and workflow management

“Demand for video distribution services on our network is at an all time high,” said Andrew Fletcher, head of delivery for the Cable and Wireless Managed Services Division. “Handling this demand efficiently and ensuring we deliver the very best service to our customers is our main priority. Scientific Atlanta’s video delivery expertise helps us to ensure a smooth transition to the new technology for our customers.”

In addition to the iLYNX platform expansion, Cable & Wireless also included additional reliance on Scientific Atlanta’s ROSATM Network Management System for this project and once again worked with Scientific Atlanta’s EMEA SciCareTM Professional Services group of systems integration experts for installation, commissioning, configuration and training support.
