“While CommonWealth One’s original footprint in Harrisonburg was relatively small, the opening of the new Regional Branch in 2005 was the first step in becoming the preferred banking choice for Harrisonburg-area residents, as well as James Madison University (JMU) students, faculty and staff,” said CommonWealth One President & CEO Charlotte Cash.

CommonWealth One and the entire JMU and Harrisonburg community are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the Harrisonburg Regional Branch. The celebration, set for June 13, coincides with CommonWealth One’s Member Appreciation Day on June 18.

The new Harrisonburg Regional Branch complimented CommonWealth One’s original branch in Gibbons Hall on JMU’s campus.

Cash noted that CommonWealth One stepped in to fill a void created when the original bank serving the JMU and Harrisonburg community closed its branch. “Through our JMU presence, we were able to demonstrate to the Harrisonburg community the benefits of credit union membership,” she added.

Originally, there was only one ATM, located at the Gibbons Hall branch. Throughout the years, however, CommonWealth One added three more ATMs, so that four ATMs now serve JMU students directly, plus the greater Harrisonburg area. CommonWealth One members also have fee-free access to 55,000 other ATMs nationwide.

CommonWealth One membership is open to all JMU students, faculty and staff as well as all residents of the greater Harrisonburg area.
