Telenor recognised for sustainability

WEBWIRE

(Fornebu, 7 September 2006) For the second consecutive year, Telenor is ranked number two on Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). Telenor has now figured on the index ranking the 24 leading telecommunications companies worldwide for five years.

DJSI ranks companies based on an overall assessment of financial, environmental and social performance. Dow Jones tries to assess what lies behind key figures and to shed light on how companies achieve their results. Telenor’s policies, working methods, management systems and stakeholder relations are assessed in respect of business ethics, customer relations, risk assessment, strategic management, and employee satisfaction and work environment. These factors are then reviewed alongside companies’ financial performance. Among the top 24 mobile operators, Vodafone is the only operator that ranks higher Telenor.

“We are of course very proud of having achieved the number two position on this list for the second year in a row. Telenor has delivered good financial results over a longer period, and this survey not only shows that we have been doing the right things, but that we have been doing them in a way that other parties admire. Our strong focus on sustainability in all parts of our business yields good results,” said Telenor President and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas.
