Ericsson’s payment and messaging service to support MTV launch in the Baltic region

WEBWIRE

September 7, 2006, MTV will use Ericsson’s (NASDAQ:ERIC) Internet Payment eXchange (IPX) solution for messaging and payment in the Baltic countries, supporting the launch of local MTV stations in the region.

MTV will utilize the premium payment service to support entertainment and content services, such as Matchmaker(TM), which it provides in conjunction with its very successful music video channel.

Liene Kupca, head of Digital Media for MTV Networks Baltic, says the partnership in the Baltics builds on the successful cooperation between the two companies in the Nordic countries. “When we decided to launch local MTV channels in the Baltic region, Ericsson IPX was the natural choice for our mobile content billing solution,” she says. “It allows us to promote our brand, and provides us with an interface to an international market, which supports MTV’s international expansion plans.”

Björn Zethraeus, Vice President Marketing and Sales IPX, Ericsson, says: “Ericsson is proud to support MTV’s entrance into this region. This partnership further underlines the growing interest in services that bridge the broadcast and mobile worlds.”

MTV is already using Ericsson IPX as its supplier in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

IPX greatly simplifies the business model between content providers, mobile operators and end users. It allows end users to purchase content from different content providers and pay using their existing charging relationship. IPX also reduces the complexity and number of economic and technical relationships required, making it a more cost-efficient solution for operators and content providers.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
