Assistance Critical in Enabling Red Cross Support for the Armed Forces
In honor of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, the American Red Cross is recognizing its partners MGM Resorts International, Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., and The Home Depot® for supporting members of the U.S. military, veterans and their families through the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Giving Program.
Members of the SAF Giving Program are among the most valued corporate and foundation partners of the Red Cross thanks to their annual commitment to support Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces. They play an important role in ensuring the Red Cross has the staff and resources to support service members, veterans and their families.

Through employees and thousands of volunteers, the Red Cross helps deliver services to military members at 1,200 Red Cross offices in communities across the country and on 56 military installations around the world. The organization serves two million military personnel, including active duty, National Guard and Reserve, as well as veterans. Red Cross volunteers help families cope with deployment and support returning combat veterans as they reintegrate into the community. The Red Cross also provides global emergency communications services and support military and veterans health care facilities across the country and overseas.
With help from SAF Giving Program members, the Red Cross connects military families with resources in their communities every day. Their contribution ensures that military members, veterans and their families get the support they need at every stage of military life.
For nearly 130 years, the Red Cross has provided comfort and support to members of the United States military. Last year alone, investment in SAF:
- Provided nearly 355,000 emergency communication services to 116,000 military members and their families
- Trained 4,500 family members in improving coping skills and resiliency
- Trained nearly 300 dental and medical assistants on military installations
- Distributed nearly 138,000 care, comfort and therapy items at military hospitals and medical facilities
- Served 23,000 individuals through rehabilitation and morale programs
- Reached 662,000 individuals through “Get to Know Us Before You Need Us” briefings
