HP Boosts Business PC Portfolio to Tackle Customers’ Toughest IT Concerns

WEBWIRE

NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2006 - HP today introduced an array of business PC products, services and peripherals specifically designed to simplify business customers’ most troublesome IT concerns.

The company premiered new HP desktops, notebooks, workstations and displays with the latest processors, enhanced security features and productivity-improving capabilities.

HP’s leading client management solutions portfolio also has been broadened to help business customers quickly deploy and manage PCs, and the company enhanced its lineup of PC security solutions to help ensure important business data stays protected.

In addition, the company expanded its HP Total Care portfolio, which encompasses the complete lifecycle of services, tools and options for every stage of a computer’s life – from purchase to recycling – with new deployment, security and financial services offerings.

The industry’s broadest business PC portfolio has been expanded to help HP continue to address customers’ top IT priorities – including infrastructure upgrades and maintenance, software deployment, security and cost cutting.(1)

According to analyst firm IDC, client systems such as business PCs, monitors, printers and other peripherals will continue to comprise well over half of the worldwide hardware spend through 2010, which could total nearly $1.4 trillion between 2007 and 2010.(2)

“HP is providing business customers with an unmatched portfolio of reliable and secure technology tools and services to solve their key IT issues,” said Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP. “It really comes down to the people at HP and our partners delivering the best customer experience by providing a full lifecycle of support to ensure our technology helps customers get the job done more easily, efficiently and cost-effectively.”

Smart technology advances for solving IT issues

The HP Compaq dc7700, dc5700 and dc5750 Desktop PCs have been bolstered with features such as the soon-to-be available Intel® vPro™ technology to help drive down lifecycle costs with premium manageability, security and data protection capabilities,(3) standard Trusted Platform Module 1.2 embedded security chips for enhanced protection for physical assets and data, and AMD64 desktop processors(4) with Cool’n’Quiet™ technology for improved power efficiency.

The HP xw9400 Workstation meets technical customers’ needs for computational and visualization power, input/output performance, expandability and reliability. The workstation uses Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ processors and features dual-core, dual-processor horsepower and full-performance, dual high-end graphics.

HP also is making its entry into “mammoth” screen-size territory with a 30-inch diagonal wide-aspect screen, the HP LP3065 display. The company additionally is introducing 19- and 20-inch diagonal sizes with expected availability of Nov. 1.

HP’s award-winning lineup of reliable, easy-to-use business notebook and tablet PCs with enhanced security are now available with Intel Core™ 2 Duo processors(5) for improved performance and the ability to run more applications simultaneously. Model numbers include the 9400, 8400, 7400, 6400, 6300 and 4400 series. Already Windows® Vista Capable(6) for investment protection, HP’s new business notebooks are further optimized for Vista with 64-bit computing power.

Consistently reliable, secure business solutions for easier IT management

To simplify and speed the deployment of HP Compaq dc7700 desktops with the upcoming optional Intel vPro technology, HP is offering a new set up and configuration service, which will save IT departments the time and cost of individually configuring each desktop to take advantage of the benefits of new technology.

HP also announced enhancements to its entry-priced PC hardware and software configuration management solution, HP OpenView Client Configuration Manager 2.0. The latest version offers significant new manageability features across multi-vendor, Windows-based client products, and also adds supports for HP thin clients. Also included is free add-on support for Intel Active Management Technology built into PCs with the upcoming Intel vPro technology.

In addition, HP announced that for the first time all commercial HP notebooks, desktops and workstations will begin shipping with a pre-loaded HP OpenView Configuration Management agent. This expands the company’s client management portfolio and helps to reduce the costs associated with managing PCs by eliminating the time spent deploying agents on machines prior to managing them.

HP also has expanded its free HP Client Manager centralized hardware management solution to identify and initialize PCs on corporate networks that feature embedded Trusted Platform Module security for quick and easy deployment of increased data protection across enterprises.

Starting Nov. 1, HP is making it even easier for business customers to purchase its Consolidated Client Infrastructure – a solution for enhancing business continuity and securing data of traditional business desktop users, while lowering IT costs and improving disaster tolerance and manageability – by expanding sales of the solution to HP-qualified enterprise channel partners across North America.

Expertise, financing options make securing business data safe and affordable

Select models of the HP Compaq dc7700, dc5700 and dc5750 business desktops will include a no obligation, 60-day free trial of the HP Smart Desktop Management Service, a PC security solution with a wide range of data protection, patch management, automatic remote backup and disaster-recovery capabilities via secure offsite storage, as well as personalized online help by an HP support expert should a customer experience a security or data loss incident.

To help remove the financial barriers and simplify the technology experience for growing small and mid-sized businesses, HP Financial Services has introduced flexible new financing options, such as financing rates as low as 4.9 percent on a wide variety of HP business PCs, workstations, servers and printers; or special lease rates as low as 0 percent for up to 60 months on nearly every HP printer. Also, with new credit line capabilities and a simplified credit application process, small and mid-sized businesses can be quickly pre-approved for the maximum amount they are eligible, helping make the process for future technology purchases seamless.(7)

HP also is offering a “Risk-Free Rebate” program for customers purchasing one of 15 eligible Smart Buy HP Care Pack prepaid, packaged services. For a limited time, no service is required on HP hardware for the life of the service, customers may claim a rebate for the full amount of the HP Care Pack.(8)

Finally, as part of the continued effort to limit the environmental impact of HP products, the dc5700 and dc5750 desktops introduced today are both designed with a new, 100 percent Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)-compliant chassis with less paint for maximum recyclability. 3 The HP dc7700p PC is enabled for Intel vPro Technology. Some functionality of this technology, such as Intel Active management technology and Intel Virtualization technology, requires additional third-party software in order to run. Availability of future “virtual appliances” applications for Intel vPro technology is dependant on third-party software providers. Compatibility of this generation of Intel vPro technology-based hardware with future “virtual appliances” and Microsoft Windows Vista operating system is to be determined.

4 These systems require a separately purchased 64-bit operating system and 64-bit software products to take advantage of the 64-bit processing capabilities of the AMD64 processor technology. Given the wide range of software applications available, performance of a system including a 64-bit operating system will vary.

5 Dual Core is a new technology designed to improve performance of certain software products. Not all customers or software applications will necessarily benefit from use of this technology.

6 This system may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware, drivers and/or software to take full advantage of Windows Vista functionality. Check www.windowsvista.com/getready for details.
