TestAmerica to Present on Radium Analysis at the Department of Defense Quality Workshop

Denver/CO/USA – WEBWIRE

The Department of Defense (DoD) Environmental Monitoring & Data Quality Workshop (EMDQ) will be held in Portland, Oregon from April 29-30. With representatives from Army, Navy, Air Force, and Defense Logistics Agency, this workgroup’s primary mission is to develop and recommend DoD policy pertaining to environmental sampling, laboratory testing operations and data quality.

TestAmerica is the largest network provider for radiological and mixed waste testing, providing analytical services throughout the U.S. TestAmerica is also a DOECAP participant and the first laboratory to be accredited by the (DoD) Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP). TestAmerica conducts a comprehensive range of environmental analyses and specialty radiochemistry testing for major DOE and FUSRAP sites, as well as numerous solid waste landfills; assisting clients with meeting regulatory compliance requirements, providing automated sample scheduling services, site specific sample kits, long-term data management and client specific data handling.

Terry Romanko, Technical Director and Radiochemistry expert at TestAmerica, has created a presentation on key methodologies in determining prevalent radium isotopes.  This presentation will be delivered on Thursday April 30th by Tony Byrd, Quality Assurance Specialist.  In the presentation Ra-226: An Inter-Method Comparison, Mr. Byrd will identify various methods, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each methodology to assist in determining the most appropriate application for radium-226. The utilization of a method is mainly driven by turnaround time, detection limit goals, and the importance of isotopic abundance to help determine disposal, clean-up, and treatment.

Terry Romanko has over 25 years of experience in quality, research, development, and production within the radiochemical field. His background includes work in the environmental, radiochemical, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries, including a focus in Operations/Production, Product Development, Quality Control, and Radiation Safety. Mr. Romanko earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
