FTS2001 Bridge contract covers transition to new Networx contract

Reston, VA — 09/05/2006 - Sprint (NYSE: S) today announced it has been awarded the FTS2001 Bridge contract with the General Services Administration (GSA). The new contract will take effect on Dec. 1, 2006, for a two-year base term with three six-month extension options. This will allow Sprint to continue the services currently provided under the existing FTS2001 contract beyond the December expiration of that contract and facilitate agency transition to the new Networx program after contracts are awarded. GSA’s estimated value for the Bridge contract is $679 million.

“Sprint has enjoyed a strong partnership relationship and experience with GSA and federal agencies as the only provider to win two consecutive FTS contracts,” said Tony D’Agata, vice president of public sector – federal for Sprint. “Given the depth of our wireless portfolio and ongoing commitment to wireline solutions, Sprint is well-positioned to meet the varied communications needs of government agencies for the long-term.”

Sprint was originally awarded the FTS2000 contract in 1988 and subsequently awarded the FTS2001 contract in 1998. Under the new FTS2001 Bridge contract, Federal Government agencies will continue to benefit from Sprint’s communications services, including a Tier-1 IP backbone, robust wireless networks and innovative products in voice, mobile data services and data applications at competitive prices to help provide faster, more secure, collaborative communications between agencies, with businesses and with consumers.
