WEBWIRE

Allegheny Health Network’s popular Health for Her educational series will focus on conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, inflammatory bowel disorders and other pelvic floor disorders for its free community programs in March.

AHN specialists in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery Spyridon Marinis, MD, and Allan S. Klapper, MD, and obstetrician and gynecologist Michael J. Pelekanos, MD, will discuss the most common pelvic floor disorders, along with effective treatment and surgical options.

These three physicians are among the first in the U.S. to earn certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, a new subspecialty accredited by both the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the American Board of Urology. For their credentials, hospital affiliations and office locations, visit www.ahn.org/find-a-doctor.

“Pelvic floor disorders such as incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse are not an inevitable part of aging that women must learn to live with,” said Deborah Linhart, vice president for women’s health initiatives, Allegheny Health Network. “Women who attend these programs will have access to the few experts in the region. By learning valuable information from these AHN specialists, women will be confident in choosing the direction of their treatment.”

Other speakers will provide information related to the importance of behavioral and diet changes as well as self-help through exercise.
