ACAC Unveils Emergency Operations Certification
The American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) has announced two new professional certification programs in emergency operations management: the Council-certified Emergency Operations Manager (CEOM) and the Council-certified Emergency Operations Professional (CEOP).
Individuals with experience in emergency operations are encouraged to apply for certification by visiting the ACAC website.
The CEOM/CEOP examination is now available at secure proctoring centers throughout the US, Canada and overseas.
In the event of a widespread natural disaster, terrorist attack or other emergency, local government resources may be temporarily overwhelmed. In such situations, every company needs trained, experienced employees to coordinate the company’s short term response to the emergency. A CEOM or CEOP can organize and implement a well developed emergency response plan, allowing for a smooth transition to professional first responders when they do arrive.
“Employees certified in emergency operations management help their employers reduce the risks that come with widespread disasters,” said Charlie Wiles, ACAC executive director. “In the process, they also make their companies more attractive to investors, clients and underwiters.”
The CEOM requires two years of verifiable field experience in activities related to emergency management. The CEOP requires eight years experience. Candidates for either certification must also pass a psychometrically rated, closed-book examination developed by the ACAC certification board. In addition, they must recertify every two years to keep pace with changes in the field of emergency operations management.
Like other ACAC certifications, the CEOM and CEOP programs are compliant with national accreditation guidelines published by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).
