Water Environment Research Foundation Accepting Applications for Annual Awards

The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) is accepting applications for the 2015 Award for Excellence in Innovation and Paul L. Busch Award. The awards will be presented at the annual WERF Subscriber Recognition Luncheon in Chicago at the Water Environment Federation’s WEFTEC event.

The Award for Excellence in Innovation recognizes organizations that have made improvements to wastewater and stormwater collection, storage or treatment operations, facilities, or processes by applying WERF research. The 2014 recipient was the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District for their advanced wastewater treatment technology pilot.

Applicants for the Award for Excellence in Innovation may self-nominate or be nominated by a third party. Interested organizations must submit their application to WERF by June 1, 2015. Through the Endowment for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research, WERF’s Paul L. Busch Award is offering $100,000 to encourage researchers working in wastewater, water reuse, biosolids, stormwater, watersheds, and other areas to pursue groundbreaking research. The WERF Endowment for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research awarded the 2014 Paul L. Busch Award to Dr. Amy Pruden, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. Her research will inform best practices for advancing water reuse and proactively address antibiotic resistance concerns.

The Paul L. Busch Award is granted to an individual or team. Utilities, universities, environmental firms, and others conducting water quality research or engineering work are encouraged to apply. Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by a third party. Interested individuals or teams must submit their application to WERF by June 1, 2015. More information on the Paul L.
