TAG Celebrates Plans For Ultra-High Speed Internet Access In Atlanta

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the nation’s largest state trade association dedicated to technology, joined Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, several metro area leaders and executives from Google  at a special press conference to kick off the coming of Google Fiber.

Over the next several months, Google will lay out fiber infrastructure across nine area cities including Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Brookhaven, College Park, Decatur, East Point, Hapeville, Sandy Springs and Smyrna.

“Georgia and Atlanta are already in the enviable position of being a transmission with two of the largest fiber optic trunk routes in the Nation. We also rank high in broadband access options, Wi-Fi access points and broadband adoption. However, in order to keep pace with future demand, we must have the bandwidth necessary to support our increasingly high-tech lives,” said TAG President/CEO Tino Mantella. “I want to commend all of our leaders who gathered here today and "I especially want to thank Google for having the determined vision to help us build a brighter, faster and more connected future here in Georgia.”

Google Fiber is an Internet and TV service that provides Internet speeds up to one gigabit per second — that’s 1,000 Megabits per second, compared to the average Internet speed in America today of 11.5 Mbps — along with hundreds of HD TV channels.
